Shift tracking

Know your guards stayed at their post, all shift long.

Guards check in at their post with the GuestTrack Check In app. Until they check out, the phone records where they are. You see time at the post, time away and every stretch with no location, and can play the night back.

Watch it set up, start to finish

A new project and a guard’s post with shift tracking on. Then Daniel checks in with the app, and his shift shows in Visitor Records, played back minute by minute. Three minutes.

Set up in three steps

  1. 1

Turn it on for a post

Open the post’s check-in point and switch on Follow location during the shift. It works at points where people check in by location; the circle is the post.

  2. 2

    The guard checks in

Before the first check-in the app explains what is shared. Then On shift stays on the home screen and in the phone’s notifications until they check out.

  3. 3

    You see the whole shift

In Visitor Records, the check-in shows a map of the post and the track, a bar of the shift, the totals, and playback.

One look tells you how the night went

Honest about what it knows

  • A short walk away shows

Away from the post, the phone notes its location every minute, so a 3-minute absence is on the record.

  • A phone turned off shows too

Location off, the app stopped, the phone restarted or permission removed: each shows as no location, with the reason.

  • Nothing hidden from the guard

They are told before the first check-in and see On shift all shift. A guard can check in without sharing; you see that they did.

  • Lasts a 12-hour shift

At the post the phone keeps one location every 5 minutes and sends them every 15. Leaving the post is sent straight away.

  • No signal, no gaps

Locations it couldn’t send wait on the phone and go once it is back online. Every batch is signed with the phone’s own key.

  • Stops at check-out

Nothing is recorded before check-in or after check-out. The notification goes when the shift ends.

Questions

Does it work on iPhone?
Not yet. Shift tracking runs on Android phones now; iPhone comes later. iPhone users can still check in and out at the post.
Can a guard switch it off?
They can turn off location or stop the app, as on any phone. That time shows as no location, with the reason, so you can ask about it.
What if the phone loses signal?
Locations are kept on the phone and sent once it is back online, so the shift still shows where the guard was.
What about the battery?
The app keeps few locations while the guard stays at the post. On phones that close apps to save battery, it asks the guard to let it keep running.
Will I get an alert when a guard leaves?
Not yet. Today you see the shift in Visitor Records.
Which plans include it?
Growth, Portfolio and the 14-day free trial, at check-in points where people check in by location.
